Deworming Your Horse

 
Fenbendazole 
  • Also known as Safeguard deworms general parasite control and all stages of encysted small strongyles.
  • Fenbendazole should be  given in the winter months of January and February and summer months July and August on your annual rotation deworming schedule.

 

Ivermectin
  • Ivermectin deworms for large and small  Strongyles, roundworm, pinworms, hairworms, threadworms, stomach worms, lung worms and bots
  • Ivermectin should be given in March and April on rotation and again in September and October.

Pyrantel Pamoate
  • Pyrantel Pamoate deworms for large and small stronglye, round worms and pinworms.
  • It is suggested to be used in May and June and also again in November and December
 
Combination wormers
  • Combination worms will consist of two or more wormers which are good to use when you horse drops weight drastically or if you haven’t dewromed them on a consistant basis.  Deworming your animal when they out in the pasture should be done more often because while eating grass in the pasture they can injest insects and parasites and that can cause worms and cause drastic weight loss as well. Keep in mind that female worms can shed up to 100,000 eggs a day and that
